Boys Beginning Classes
Boys classes begin with one-hour classes that focus on the USAG levels 1 & 2, skills and equipment including floor, pommel horse, rings, vault parallel bars and high bars plus trampoline. Groups of seven or fewer boys are led through their weekly rotation by their instructor for 8-weeks at time. Rotations typically include three events (i.e. floor, rings, p-bars) where instructors use skill drills, demonstration and guided practice to help students learn new moves. Being able to comprehend and master new skills is a wonderful self-confidence boost! There are six eight-week sessions throughout the year (please see our session calendar), and students are welcome to join mid-session as space allows (the exception being the final week of the session when we focus on evaluating skills on the students skill charts). As sessions end, instructors will promote students who successfully complete their skill charts and/or demonstrate a need for the next challenge to boys intermediate classes. Students interested in learning skills or promoting to the next level at a more accelerated pace are encouraged to add a second day of class to their schedule. Boys Intermediate
Boys Intermediate classes become a bit longer to help with the increased skill level required to learn intermediate level gymnastics. Enrollment in Intermediate classes is by instructor invitation/evaluation only. Classes become an hour and a half and expand to include a longer warm-up (to work on focus skills), longer rotations on the equipment and a bit more strength and flexibility conditioning to help attain skills while staying safe in the attempt. The classes focus on USAG Level 3 – 4. Intermediate students are highly encouraged to take two classes a week when their schedule allows. Skills are evaluated at the end of each session to track progression. Students who have completed their skill charts and are ready for the next challenge are invited by their instructor(s) to advance to the next level of classes ( Boys Pre-team ) Dress Code
As a member of SFG, your child is issued a class leotard or t-shirt to wear to class. The following is a dress code for all children in classes
Girls: Class leotard, with or with out biker shorts, no jewelry, long hair neatly pulled back into a ponytail or braid, short hair clipped up and out of eyes, bare feet or gymnastics shoes.
Boys: Class t-shirt, shorts or sweatpants (no buttons, zippers or baggy pants), no jewelry, long hair neatly tied back, bare feet or gymnastics shoes.
Children wear leotards/t-shirts that represent the level of class they attend. It is important when a child moves up to purchase the corresponding uniform. A leotard recycling system is in place. You can trade in a used leotard for credit or purchase a used leotard for a discounted price. Please inquire at the front desk, sizes are limited.
